DAY 1: FROM CASABLANCA TO MARRAKECH

We will have a guided tour of Marrakech. You will discover the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and many other hidden treasures. After lunch, we will continue with a visit to the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque and the famous Jemaa el-Fna, one of the attractions of central Marrakech. The square, which comes alive at night with local storytellers, artists, and delicious barbecues, is worth visiting. The tour will conclude with an exploration of the souk (market). DAY 2: THROATS FROM MARRAKECH TO DADEs

After a morning of pickup from your Marrakech accommodation, meet your guide and take the Tizi-n-Tichka pass through the Atlas Mountains, where local Berber farmers work the land as they have for centuries. Make your way to Ouarzazate – also known as “The Gate of the Sahara” – and continue for lunch (own expense) at the kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, which is on the UNESCO list. Follow your guide on a tour of the kasbah and hear the many famous movies and photoshoots that have taken place there. Travel beyond the palm trees and olive groves of the Skoura oasis to Kasbah Amridil and learn about its construction and history from your guide. Continue through the Valley of Roses to Kelaa Mgouna, a local rose plantation. Visit one of the rose cultivation cooperatives and watch the workers mix their ingredients to make rose-scented perfumes, then head to your guesthouse in Boumalne du Dadès for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 3: DADES GORGES TO THE DESERT OF MERZOUGA

Leave Boumalne du Dadès after breakfast and take the famous road of 1,000 Kasbahs that runs through the Dadès Valley. Visit one of the Valley’s traditional kasbahs and listen to your guide detailing the role it has played in the region’s history. Head to the foothills of the High Atlas to the Tinghir oasis and enjoy an hour’s walk along the Todgha River, where olive groves and palm trees flourish along the river. Visit the Berber villages with your guide to meet one or two of the locals, then head to the mighty Todgha Gorge for lunch (own expense). Travel through the oasis cities of Erfoud and Merzouga, then find your camel train at Erg Chebbi to continue the camel ride into the Sahara desert. Enjoy beautiful views of the Saharan sunset, then arrive at your desert camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars as local nomads play traditional folk songs.

DAY 4: FROM THE DESERT OF MERZOUGA TO FES

Wake up early to watch the morning sunrise over the dunes. Enjoy breakfast in the desert, then hop back in your vehicle to continue the journey to the holy city of Rissani, the birthplace of the 17th-century ruler Moulay Ali Cherif, founder of the Alaouite dynasty of Morocco. Continue to Midelt for lunch (own expense), and then head along the Ziz River, where the fortified kasbahs (traditional Moroccan fortresses) are nestled amongst dense palm groves. Travel through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains and continue through the fertile Saiss plains, where native flora and fauna thrive. In the early afternoon, arrive at your riad or hotel in Fez.
